Our Invitation!
Come and join Paul and Carmel at Ashbourne Rd. Church, Derby, on the first Saturday morning of the month (see dates), for worship, Bible teaching, prayer & fellowship.
Arrive at 9.30 a.m. for coffee and we start with worship at 10.00 a.m. followed by prayers, led by Carmel. After a break from 11.15-11.30, Paul teaches for around an hour.
We finish before 1.00 p.m. when soup and rolls are served for those who wish to stay.
The future of this work is under review
because of this conviction:
It is our belief that God is challenging ordinary Christians to rediscover what it means to be God’s people, the ‘Church’. The model for this is Jesus Himself and there is no reason why we cannot live and worship as He did,
firstly, by meeting together with others in a small group for fellowship and worship,
and secondly, engaging with other people in everyday life, and witnessing to God’s love in word and deed
and thirdly, supporting one another in what it means to be God’s people today
The myriad church activities placed upon people by churches, large and small, mostly reflect religion rather than practical Christian faith. While this remains so, the church of past generations fades away in front of our eyes.
There is no reason for anyone to despair that the church of God will die out. It is God’s church and it is growing daily, but perhaps not always in plain sight. Jesus is calling His people to embrace yet again the straightforward path of discipleship He once walked with the twelve. It works, it is God’s will, and it leads to the growth of God’s church. Anything else is a burden on God’s people placed by leaders who unfortunately mistake success, fame and gain with the growth of God’s church.
The broad pathway of organised Christian faith is trod daily, and many get lost on it; so I urge you to walk with Christ, where you are, and with other people of faith in your family and in your street, whoever they are. You need no further information or inspiration; read about such discipleship in the Bible, especially the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the New Testament letters. This has all been written by people who have put God’s vision into practice without the church baggage we hump around today, and the lighter we travel;, the closer we are to Christ.
Search your heart, for you know what this means.
